Friday the 13th TV Series and Film Reboot In Works

The Friday the 13th franchise is being flipped into a new an hour-long drama television series and the film is getting a reboot from scratch!

CelebNMusic247.com has learned that that one of our favorite horror films Friday the 13th that started the slasher craze is getting a TV and FILM reboot. The series will be an hour-long drama series which will connect to the franchise by having notorious serial killer Jason Voorhees returning to Crystal Lake to victimise the town’s current residents. The series is set for a 12 episode series that explores Jason Voorhees’s relationship to Crystal Lake and his own twisted family dynamic. The new episodic series will also explore Jason Voorhees in multiple time periods. Sean S Cunningham, who directed the original movie, will serve as executive producer on the Friday the 13th television series. Cunningham told Deadline:

“Jason Voorhees is synonymous with the genre and we plan to build on this legacy with a provocative and compelling take that expands upon the storylines that have already thrilled millions worldwide.”

His producing partner Robert Barsamian added:

“Expect the show to take viewers in some exciting new directions that we’re confident will not only excite existing fans of Friday The 13th, but also attract new audiences to the situations and characters that inhabit the small town of Crystal Lake.”

The original movie was released back in 1980, and spawned a successful franchise starting the slasher craze which most recently produced a 2009 reboot.

Friday the 13th was turned into a TV series in 1987 through 1990. In Friday the 13th 8 the film and the TV series were combined.

Besides the TV series, the film is getting another reboot by V/H/S director

Bruckner – who directed the V/H/S segment ‘Amateur Night’ – will restart the series from scratch again.  It is currently unclear if and how the new film will incorporate the Jason Voorhees/Camp Crystal Lake mythology from the original series. Michael Bay will produce the reboot of Friday the 13th alongside Brad Fuller and Andrew Form.

As for Paramount, they have already picked out the perfect release date for the “Friday the 13th” reboot — Friday, March 13, 2015.

Marcus Nispel (“The Texas Chainsaw Massacre”) directed the 2009 “Friday the 13th” reboot, which did not merit a sequel.
